BARUJ SALINAS.............................................................................................................................. . Baruj Salinas was born in Havana, Cuba. He received his degree in architechture from Kent State University in Ohio. After his exile from Cuba in 1959, he moved first to San Antonio, Texas, and then to Miami., Florida. In 1974 he moved to Barcelona, Spain, where he lived until 1992. In Barcleona he had contact with artists such as Joan Miró and Antoni Tápies. Since 1992 he has lived in Miami, and in 1995 he took up an art teacher position at Miami Dade College, Interamerican Campus. Since then, he divides his time between teaching and his painting studio. His work can be seen in several important museums and collections in Europe, Asia and the Americas. He is regularly featured in solo shows in galleries in Europe and the United States. His participation in group exhibitions includes Recent Developments in Latin American Drawing at The Art Institute of Chicago, Outside Cuba,Breaking Barriers: Selections from the Museum of Art¬タルs Permanent Contemporary Cuban Collection at the Museum of Art in Fort Lauderdale. He is the winner of numerous awards, including the Prize to Excellency at the VII Grand Prix International de Peinture in Cannes, a first prize at the IV Pan American Exhibition in Miami, and a first prize at the Sexta Bienal de San Juan del Grabado Latinoamericano in San Juan. His works is in the collections of museums in Israel, Spain, Colombia, Mexico and the United States, including the Josefina Pinedo Art Collection, the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C. and the Miami-Dade Public Library.
